Sylvia Day’s Afterburn/Aftershock releases Nov. 3rd on Passionflix, and we can’t wait!
For years, I’ve been wanting Sylvia Day characters to get their debut up on the screen. I always hoped it would be the Crossfire series, but alas, it hasn’t worked out so far. BUT, not to despair. Passionflix is to the rescue!
Sylvia Day has been supplying fans with social media and email, building up the hype, from the casting of the characters to the behind the scenes shots, to editing clips, and then the trailer.
Watching the trailer was enough to have me rereading the Afterburn/Aftershock book, and here are some of the things I’m hoping and praying and can’t wait to see in the movie.
1. Trademark Sylvia Day sensuality
No idea how this will manage to translate onto the screen, but we’ll leave that up to the movie maker gods. Sylvia Day’s books are famous for their scorching, emotional, intense—did we mention—HOT love scenes. She excels at writing both the slow burn and the hot-and-heavy, and her Afterburn/Aftershock novel was no exception. The trailer gave us some good teasers. We’re optimistic that Jax and Gia will be tearing up the sheets on screen for us.
2. Male hotness
Jackson Rutledge (otherwise known as Jax—there’s something so sexy about that X in his nickname *sizzle*), he’s a larger than life character. Heir to a political family whose father has dreams of him one day sitting in the Oval Office, Jax is professionally ruthless. And… sexual prowess personified. My favorite quote, possibly in all of Sylvia Day’s books, is the one where we first meet Jax. When he’s first walking to Gia, and he’s “packing heat between those long, strong legs.” We’re well aware this movie is not X-rated, so there will be no literal image of what he’s packing, but… the prowess is looking good. Tyler Johnson, the actor playing Jax, is smoking all over the trailer, and we really can’t get enough of his sharp chiseled jawline. And unforgiving scowl. He’s a reluctant hero, but one who’s hopelessly in love with his lady, and in the end, willing to sacrifice everything for her.
3. Chemistry!
If there’s one pet peeve we have, it’s sex scenes that come out of nowhere with no chemistry between the actors on screen. We want the couple sizzling way before they hop in bed or take off their clothes. In the novel, Jax and Gia carry some serious tension in their relationship, from their past love affair, and their attraction feels inevitable. Like in every Sylvia Day novel, their chemistry on the page is off the charts hot. That has to come through in the movie. (Pleeeeease!) It wouldn’t be Jax and Gia without it.
4. Some glitz and glam
The Afterburn/Aftershock novel has some glittery parties with politicians and big money in fancy ballrooms. Jax spends a number of scenes in a tuxedo—and please, costume gods everywhere—there better be at least one tux. Gia is a young woman from a background rich in family and love but new to the lavish lifestyle of Jax’s family. She has some pretty good Cinderella type moments in the novel, and hopefully the movie will do those justice as well.
5. The beauty of an HEA
So many great Hollywood romantic movies deny us the HEA we crave so much. (I’m looking at you, La La Land.) The number one thing we’re singing with excitement at having movies made by Passionflix, since they’re of the novels we love—our HEAs are guaranteed. Jax and Gia will be head over heels in love at the end of this movie. There will be romantic words, pledging commitment, and happy feelings of joy when it’s all finished. No doubts or fears or anxieties about it. Phew! Such a relief.
6. Kissing
We’re going to just put that out there. There are nowhere near enough good, sexy kissing scenes in movies or TV or anywhere. There will be some. Or lots. Or, a whole big enormous dose. And it will be hot. Jax and Gia shred it up. Their first sex scene in the book, she doesn’t even get her second leg out of her jeans so… Just saying, that may or may not happen. But we’re hoping.
We’ll part on some of my favorite Jackson Rutledge quotes from the book that weren’t in the trailer, but here’s hoping they get in the movie!
- “You could never hide from me, Gia. I’d recognize you blindfolded.”
- “Not dirty, except when you wanted me that way. A little rough, a lot hard. Jesus. You used to turn me inside out.”
- “I see you and I forget who I am.”
- “I’m a starving man, baby, living on junk food and scraps, and you were my first real home-cooked meal. I needed you, Gia, and I haven’t stopped.”
- “I’m not going to be able to let you go after this, Gia. For better or worse, you’re mine.”
